What does Proverbs 4:24 mean, Put away from thee a froward mouth and perverse lips put far from thee? What is a froward mouth according to the Bible?
The new creation is righteous and walks righteously
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee (Proverbs 4:24)
When you have become a new creation in Christ, you should also walk according to the new creation. You have been made righteous by the blood of Jesus. Therefore you shall walk in righteousness and speak according to the Word.
The heart of the old creation is like the world. The old creation is carnal and sense-ruled and lives after the flesh in darkness. The flesh is evil and corrupt. Therefore the heart of the old creation is evil and corrupt. (Read also: Why did God write His law on tables of stone?)
What is a froward mouth?
When you were the old creation, you belonged to the world and the ruler of the world. You were prideful and selfish and your heart was filled with evil, negativity, and envy. You had a froward mouth that spoke lies, complained, murmured, and talked negatively about circumstances, daily matters, your job, people, the future, etc.
The old creation has a froward mouth and perverse lips and speaks things that oppose the Word of God and are not according to the will of God.
But now that you have become a new creation in Christ, through regeneration in Him, you should put away a froward mouth and perverse lips.
You should speak from your renewed heart and your renewed mind, according to what the Word says, and be led by the Holy Spirit. (Read also: Why is renewing your mind necessary?).
If you don’t renew your mind with the Word of God and don’t say what the Word says, but you keep talking like the world, then it’s better to keep your mouth shut!
Death and life are in the power of the tongue
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:21)
The Bible says, that death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall it the fruit thereof. With your mouth, you can bless or you can curse, you can speak death or you can speak life.
If you love life, you will speak the words of God from your renewed heart and mind. If you love death, you will speak the words of the world from your unrenewed heart and carnal mind.
You decide what you do with your mouth. Will you renew your mind with the Word of God and speak the words of God or will you keep speaking the words of the world?
