In Proverbs 4:24, we read about putting away a froward mouth and perverse lips. But what is a froward mouth? What does the Bible say about a froward mouth?
What is a froward mouth?
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee (Proverbs 4:24)
When you have become a new creation, you should also walk according to the new creation. You have been made righteous and therefore you shall walk in righteousness and speak according to the Word.
The heart of the old creation is like the world. The old creation is carnal and lives after the flesh and is sense-ruled. The flesh is evil and corrupt. Therefore the heart of the old creation is evil and corrupt. (Read also: Who is the old man? and Why did God write His law on tables of stone?)
When you were the old creation, you belonged to the world. Your heart was filled with evil, negativity, and envy. Therefore, out of your mouth came forth lies and negative talking about circumstances, daily matters, people, the future, etc.
The old creation has a froward mouth and perverse lips.
But now that you have become a new creation in Christ, through regeneration in Him, you should put away a froward mouth and perverse lips. You should speak from your renewed heart and your renewed mind, according to what the Word says, and be led by the Holy Spirit.
If you don’t renew your mind with the Word of God and don’t say what the Word says, but you keep talking like the world, then it’s better to keep your mouth shut!
Death and life are in the power of the tongue
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:21)
The Word says, that death and life are in the power of the tongue. With your mouth, you can bless or you can curse. You can speak the words of God from your renewed heart and mind or you can speak the words of the world from your unrenewed heart and carnal mind.
You have a choice in what you do with your mouth. Will you renew your mind with the Word of God and speak the words of God or will you keep speaking the words of the world?
