And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? (Sakāmvārdi 5:20)
There is nothing better, than to live and be together with your spouse. You’ve made the decision of sharing your life with your spouse by entering into a marriage covenant. The marriage covenant is a covenant that is instituted by God and no one can break. No one can break it, not by separation and not by a legal divorce. You’ve made a choice to get married for good reasons. You should always remember that! In Proverbs 5:20, the father asks the son, why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
The marriage covenant
Nowadays the marriage covenant is often considered as a legal formality, and nothing more. When you enter into marriage and become bored with your spouse, after a while, it’s very easy to get out of the marriage covenant, by getting a divorce.
There used to be a difference between the world and the church and the way people lived. Bet mūsdienās, there’s hardly any difference. That’s because the church has allowed the world into the church and followed the example of the world. That’s the reason why so many ‘believers’ in church are getting divorced.
But who is walking in that self-sacrificial love in which Jesus Christ walked? Who has died to ‘self’ and therefore is faithful, patient, loving, merciful, forgiving and has a serving attitude towards his/her spouse? Who is faithful and stick by his/her spouse during hard times, and during difficult circumstances, when things aren’t go the way that you’ve planned?
What if God would break His covenant?
God is holy, faithful, patient, loving, righteous, merciful, serving, forgiving etc. When you are born again and when His Holy Spirit lives inside of you, then you have the ability to become like Him. Your (Pasaulīgos) carnal character shall cease, and His character shall become your character.
When His character has become your character, then you shall stay faithful to your spouse and your marriage covenant. You shall not be led by your senses, Emocijas, feelings and by the lusts and desires of your flesh, that could lead you into infidelity and cause you to become a covenant breaker. You shall not cheat on your spouse with a stranger. Because you shall be happy and content with your spouse. You shall have no desire to leave him/her and become unfaithful.
You shall not be led by your carnal desires and lusts, but you shall be led by the Holy Spirit.
When you go become unfaithful and cheat on your spouse, than that means that you are still carnal and still walk after your flesh. It means that your mind and your character have not been renewed with the Word of God, but still walk after your flesh; being ruled by your senses.
Don’t embrace the bosom of a stranger, but stay loyal to your spouse.
