Did you know why women were separated from men in the synagogue? Many people think and say, that women were inferior than men, but is that true? What does the Bible say about the separation of men and women in the temple? Let’s have a look at the two reasons, why women were separated from men in the synagogue.
First reason why women were separated from men
According to the Jewish law, men and women had to be separated during prayer, because only then, were they able to devote themselves completely to prayer and to the Lord. The men and women were separated by a curtain or wall, or the women were sitting on the balcony. The reason was not because they were inferior then men, but the reason was, that they had to devote themselves completely to prayer. Anything that would distract their attention had to be removed.
When an attractive woman would sit next to a man, the man could be distracted by her, and this could interfere in his prayer to God.
Men being distracted by women
How many men, nowadays, are being distracted in the church by attractive women, or by women, who wear provocative clothing?
As women, we must pay attention, to the way we are dressed. We should dress ourselves in a dignified manner, especially when going to church. We mustn’t become a distraction for men. Следователно, we should avoid sexy revealing clothing; lower cut tops that shows parts of the breasts, strapless dresses, or mini-skirts/shorts with bare legs that show your bum etc. You don’t have to cover yourself up completely, nor do you have to look old-fashion. But be careful, that you don’t become a distraction for men.
The second reason why women were separated from men
The other reason, why women were separated from men, was that in that time, many pagan ceremonies, contained sexual activities and orgies. By separating the women from the men, they would avoid this behaviour.
